ABOUT
In January 2022 Ekvad Consulting was founded. A Consultancy Business assisting companies, organisations, associations, governments in the area of intellectual property rights, focusing on plant variety rights, and EU policies in the agriculture-, seed- and horticultural sector.

With more than 25 years of professional experience Martin Ekvad, the founder and former President of the Community Plant Variety Office (cpvo.europa.eu), has extensive knowledge of the above mentioned policy sectors. He has an overview of the general developments on an EU and worldwide level as well as detailed skills on key questions. As lawyer with experiences of litigating before the EU courts in Luxembourg he provides advice on legal developments, IP strategies and the enforcement of IP rights.
Martin Ekvad has been participating in UPOV meetings since 2003 and in 2012-2014 he served as Chair of the UPOV Legal and Administrative Committee. He has a world wide network in the business sector as well as officials from PVP and IP authorities.
Martin Ekvad has specific insight on the EU initiative in relation to the Use of new genomic techniques (NGT) and the initiative on Production and marketing of plant reproductive material (PRM). He has vast experiences of EU inter-institutional matters.

Martin Ekvad assists clients making analysis, studies and giving advice on legal and political matters as well as strategies on how to adjust to the EU Green Deal, the Farm to Fork strategy, the Biodiversity strategy and the global objectives laid out in UN's Sustainable Development Goals. He provides legal and business advise on matters relating to intellectual property.
He is the co-author of the book EU Plant Variety Protection, Oxford Press
